Echo screening for rheumatic fever: the prevalence is 2%

1.       Echo prevalence is much higher.

2.       Estimates cases 1600,000.

3.       50000 cases added each year.

4.       Ten times more prevalence by echo criteria (21-30 per thousand)

5.       MS, MR/AR  > 2 cm jet,  1-2 cm jet with abnormal morphology, < 1 cm jet is physiologic jet

6.       0.6/1000 clinical diagnosis , 20/1000 echo prevalence, thick MV in all

7.       Nodules, doming, thickening are the criteria

8.       Silent clinically echo positive should be treated as established RHD
